How do you become a successful loan signing agent?

It takes education, experience and getting your name and credentials out into the hands of the right people.

Education and training...

The first step is to find an accredited training program to prepare you for the California State Notary Exam.  My personal preference is NotaryClasses.com.  Click on the icon on this page to visit their Web site.  After taking the class, you will have the option of taking the proctored exam the same day as your notary preparation class.

After you have received notice from the Secretary of State that you have passed the exam, you will begin the fingerprint clearance process.  It can take several weeks to receive fingerprint clearance.  It is not until after your fingerprints have been cleared that your Notary Commission can be issued.  In order to become a loan signing agent you must first become a commissioned Notary Public.  I suggest registering in the Loan Signing Agent class at NotaryClasses.com while you are waiting for your fingerprint clearance.

Once you receive your commission, file your Bond with the County Clerk's Office.  Now it's time to hit the road running and market your services.  Begin signing up online with 100 to 200 signing services, title companies and lenders.  At your loan signing class you will be given a listing of companies to register  with.  Build a business profile and purchase listings on notary listing web sites such as 123Notary.com and NotaryRotary.com.  Search the internet and list your services on as many free sites as you can find.  It can take several weeks before you receive your first assignment.

Experience...

If you're like most people, as you are signing up online with signing services and entering your information in notary databases, you'll come to the sudden realization that you know nothing about this profession.  All of the information you processed during your notary and loan signing classes will be floating around in your head while you're wondering if it will ever come together.  You won't have the experience you need to feel confident preparing for and completing your first signing.  It's time to contact LoanSigner101 and experience an actual signing.  LoanSigner101 has several services to offer new signing agents.  The LoanSigner101 programs are designed to give new notaries the practical experience needed to prepare for their first signing assignments.

Marketing...

For me this is the most creative part of my business.  It's important to reach your target market online, mail solicitation and in person.
